Happy Birthday to Me!!

I got home from work today to find my Pathfinder Beginner Box waiting for me on the dining room table. I can't wait until the wife and daughters are down for the night (in a house full of females, the only time I get to myself is after they all fall asleep).

My plan is to start examine the contents, begin reading, learn the mechanics and then bring my two older daughters into it. In the meantime, I'll be painting up the metal miniatures that I purchased.

A Fresh Start

An answer to a prayer and a step in the right direct. I discovered and ordered the new Pathfinder RPG Beginner Box. I'm calling it a birthday present to myself and leaving it at that. But after being totally intimidated by the size of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook, I thought this would be a better way to return to the game. It's releasing on the 26th, so I await it's arrival with baited breath.

The Quest Begins

I've been a long-time fan of RPGs. It began with D&D back in the early (I mean early) 80's as I was starting high school. I was fortunate enough to have about half a dozen friends who all lived on the same block. So we would get together and pull all-nighters with nothing but pop, pizza and chips to keep us going. Those were great times. Over the years the group disbanded as we got older. Years later, myself and a few guys I knew ventured back into D&D, now well into it's second edition. We played for a while until my wife and I decided to start a family. It was all pretty much downhill from there. There just was no time left. Anyway, I kept up on the books and whatnot, but never played again. But recently, during a brief spell of nostalgia, I began feeling that old tug. A need to gather a group of friends and get back into gaming. But to my disappointment, the game of D&D has become so different from what I knew, my excitement fizzled. The game is rife with badly painted plastic miniatures with permanently bent swords and decks and decks of power cards. WTF??

So I was left with the question: Where can I find an RPG that can re-vive the dream? Well, I found Pathfinder RPG. A system that spun off of D&D 3rd edition. I checked out the rules and it certainly presented itself more like the old D&D from back in the day. AND...Reaper Miniatures produces a fantastic line of lead miniatures for the game. I quickly ordered a couple of miniatures and dug out my old polyhedral dice. Now I just need to gather a group.
